Douna Loup
Switzerland
Douna Loup was born in Geneva in 1972 and grew up in France. She is known for her empathetic novels that often engage with existential themes and human relationships. Her work has won numerous awards.
In her latest novel, Boris, 1985, Loup draws a moving portrait of a family that also captures the story of a generation in the 1980s in Switzerland.
In Les Printemps sauvages (Untamed Springs), after a lonely childhood on the shores of a lake, the narrator sets out, hand in hand with her mother, on a multi-year search for a brother she never knew. They wander over fields and meadows, sleep in the forest, and find work on farms or in factories.
Douna Loup’s ability to capture the beauty and fragility of the work using all senses is remarkable. Steven Wyss’ acutely sensitive translation has brought her novel Les Printemps sauvages into German with all its lyricism. In Leukerbad Loup and Wyss will discuss the process of translation.
