Born in 1964, the writer and translator Anne Weber lives in Paris. She translates from German into French (Wilhelm Genazino and Sibylle Lewitscharoff) as well as from French into German (Pierre Michon and Cécile Wajsbrot, among others). Her work has been recognized with numerous prizes. She was awarded the German Book Prize for Annette, ein Heldinnenepos, a biography in verse. In their statement, the jury said: “The strength of Anne Weber’s story can be measured against her heroine’s power.” In her new novel Bannmeilen: Ein Roman in Streifzügen (Banlieues: A Novel in Eighteen Forays) engages concretely with the Parisian banlieues and makes visible the intricate interwovenness of geographic, political, and aesthetic paths. For Paris does not end at the inner border of the periphery, but must and will be opened up.
