Viktor Erofeyev

Born in Moscow in 1947 to a family of diplomats, Viktor Erofeyev is a well-known Russian writer and literary critic. In his works, he writes critically of the Soviet and post-Soviet society. As the author of numerous novels and essays, he is an important influence on the modern Russian literary scene. He does not shy away from a role as a provocative critic of contemporary Russia. He lives in exile in Germany.
In Viktor Erofeyev’s most recent novel Der grosse Gopnik (The Great Gopnik), he continues the literary autobiography begun in Good Stalin. The two antagonists in The Great Gopnik are easily recognizable as Putin and a writer who shares biographical traits with Erofeyev. The novel offers an incisive analysis of Russian society and captivates readers with its gripping narrative style and sharply drawn characters.
