Rebecca Gisler

Rebecca Gisler was born in Zurich in 1991. She studied at the Swiss Literary Institute in Biel and earned a Master’s degree in creative writing and the University Paris 8. She lives in Zurich and Paris and, like Anne Weber, writes in both German and French. Rebecca Gisler translated her first Vom Onkel (From Uncle) from French into German herself. It appeared first in France in 2021 as D’Oncle and was nominated for several literary prizes. In the novel, she plays virtuosically with language and languages as if the opportunities created by bilinguality include additional descriptive resources. The uncle at the center of the novel is scrutinized, dissected, and analyzed with incredible delight.
“A poetic inventory, a human bestiary, and existentialist joyride, D’oncle is a work of rare originality that signals a remarkable author worth keeping an eye on.” (Salomé Kiner, RTS)
