Levin Westermann
Switzerland
Levin Westermann was born in 1980 and lives in Biel, where he studied creative writing. His writing contains profound reflections on humans’ relationship with nature. This lyricist, writer, and essayist has won several awards, including the 2021 Swiss Literature Prize. Westermann’s texts are distinctive for their lyrical tone and delicate feel for subtle details. Following his well-regarded poetry collections, his debut novel Zugunruhe (Migratory Restlessness) has appeared. In it, Westermann addresses human destruction of nature. The jury for the German Prize for Nature Writing, which he won in 2022, wrote that, “Westermann’s clever prose, with its fascinating rhythms, its convincing narrative dramaturgy, and its meandering thought processes along explored terrain is carried by an ethical impulse that contains a profound skepticism towards its own genre.”
