Jakub Małecki

Jakub Małecki was born in Kolo (Poland) in 1982. He studied at the University of Economics and Business in Poznań. His ten published novels have won numerous prizes and have been translated into several languages. He lives and works in Warsaw as a writer and translator from English. In his latest novel to be translated into German as Beben in uns (Tremor Within), Jakub Małecki empathetically explores complex interpersonal relationships in a modern world shaped by alienation and longing. The novel is set in the landscape along the Warta River. The horrors of German occupation during the Second World War work their repercussions long afterwards, influencing the fates even of the third generation of two farming families. Calmly and without sensationalism, subtly and poetically, Małecki tells the stories of people who are at odds with themselves and the world and whose rural lives are deeply influenced by the twists and turns of history. With his typically empathetic view, Małecki brings his readers close to his characters and into a country that has gone through a century of dramatic changes.
