LITERARY WALK:
A LITERARY DAY IN THE PFYN FOREST

THURSDAY, 6/28/2018: Guided walk with readings by CHRISTINE PFAMMATTER and JUDITH SCHALANSKY.
The walk will be led by a guide.

MEET: 10:20 AM at the Sierre train station (Deposit luggage)

PARTICIPATION FEE: Fr. 70.–. Fee includes lunch en route in the Pfyn Forest.

ROUTE: On the Thursday before the festival, we invite you to join Christine Pfammatter, Judith Schalansky, and a guide on a hike from Sierre through the Pfyn Forest to Leuk, without any burdens as we will organize the transfer of your luggage from Sierre to Leukerbad.
We will start in the Rilke city Sierre and enter the border forest. Pfyn (Finges in French) means border or end. This pine forest is also part of the border of the bi-lingual canton of Valais. It is both the heart and the sheltering perimeter of the regional Valaisian nature park Pfyn-Finges. Over the past 10,000 years, the Rhone River ate its way through a landslide and could no longer be tamed. The local writer, Christine Pfammatter, now a resident of Berlin, and the Spycher Prize winner and editor of the ‘Nature Studies’ series, Judith Schalansky will read excerpts from their works along the way. In the afternoon, we will stop at an eatery in a wine cellar in the middle of the Pfyn Forest and at the end of the afternoon in Leuk we will board a bus to Leukerbad or we will accept the invitation of the Schloss Leuk Foundation to linger over raclette and then make our way with renewed energy to Leukerbad.
