Rajesh Parameswaran

Rajesh Parameswaran was born in 1979 in Chennai, India, and grew up in Texas. He studied law at Yale University and currently lives in New York City. His stories have appeared in numerous literary journals. “The Strange Career of Dr. Raju Goapalarajan” was included in The Best American Magazine Writing in 2007 and The Washington Post has praised the author as a “genuinely distinctive voice in American fiction.”

With his collection I Am an Executioner, Rajesh Parameswaran has made his book publishing debut. As the subtitle, “Love Stories”, reveals, these nine stories are about love. He tells them in such an unconventional way, that each one of them offers a different perspective on love and the power of love. All of these stories are written in the first person and the narrative tone changes with the protagonists—both human and animal. Portrayals from the perspective of a swindler, of a tiger in love with its guard, or of an elephant writing its autobiography often make the plots tip into the comical, the absurd, or the fantastical, and lead to surprising turns. Susanne Sturzenegger recommends Rajesh Parameswaran’s love stories in SRF 2 as “refined, slanted, and bizarre.”
